We are often asked, how do I know the strength of my homemade butter and edibles? We want to help you better understand your homemade medicine to ensure you are properly dosing yourself.
There is a simple formula you can follow to calculate the THC milligrams of your homemade butter. If you prefer to skip this step and simplify your life, Cannaceutics also offers CannaButter and we provide the THC milligrams for you.
If you make your own, follow these steps to calculate the strength of your butter and the number of milligrams you will find in each dose:
As an example, we will use a cannabis strain to make our butter that tested at 10% THC.
1 gram of cannabis = 1000 milligrams of THC
10% of 1000 milligrams is 100 milligrams (1000 x 10% = 100 mg)
This means, one gram of cannabis that tested at 10% THC contains 100 milligrams of THC.
Next, let’s calculate how many milligrams are in a batch of homemade butter.
If you used 28 grams of your cannabis that tested at 10% THC to make one cup of butter, 2800 milligrams of THC went into that one cup of butter (28 x 100mg=2800mg THC).
Now that you know the number of milligrams in your butter, the number of milligrams that goes into your recipe will vary depending on the amount of butter your recipe calls for.
If your recipe calls for 1/2 cup of butter to make a dozen brownies, then the entire batch would contain 1400 milligrams. Divide 1400 mg by the number of servings, in this case 12, to determine that each brownie will contain about 116.6 milligrams of THC. This would make for a STRONG brownie.
If you find the amount of butter a given recipe calls for will make an edible too strong, simply cut the amount of butter used with plain butter. This will allow you to control the strength of each of your doses.
If you want to purchase our CannaButter, we will always provide the number of milligrams that will allow you to easily calculate your dosing.
Here is how it works:
Our CannaButter is 188 milligrams of THC for 1/4 cup of butter.
If your recipe calls for 1/4 cup of butter, you would simply divide 188 by the number of servings (i.e. cookies, brownies, etc.). This will give you each doses edible. For example, if you made a batch of 12 cookies, 188 divided by 12 would mean each cookie contains 15.7mg of THC.
We hope this is helpful! Any questions, we are always here to help.
